Dear Friends,
The decision taken by our country to join the European Union is arguably one of the most important steps in the history of the development of our democracy. It was both a necessary and a natural development for this island of ours which faced and overcame so many a seemingly-impossible odd in its chequered history.
Europe – our ultimate destination of old – is now a reality. We are the generation living that reality. We are the generation that bears the unique responsibility to make this reality valid and positive for those that will succeed it.
Malta is increasingly and steadily making the most of its membership of the European Union, not only through access to direct and indirect funding but also, and quite significantly so, through its active and meaningful participation in the European Union’s structures and institutions.
The European Parliament is one of these principal institutions.
In presenting myself as a candidate for these forthcoming elections my commitment is that of striving to bring the European institutions a step closer to all of us and to help to make them more meaningfully relevant to our plans and aspirations.
It is a commitment to ease access; to take a stand which is as strong and determined as necessary in particular in all matters which are of specific relevance to Malta and in all matters of principle. It is a commitment to enhance a Europe which puts solidarity and subsidiarity into practice – not in an abstract or superficial way, but in a way which can make a difference in the lives of each and every one of us.
It is a commitment to which I also hope to validly bring over twenty two years of professional experience of working closely with people from all walks of life in many different situations and circumstances; with commercial entities ranging from one-man or family run businesses to large multi-national and international corporations; with individuals and entities in touch with local and international executive, administrative and judicial entities and European Union institutions - all of which it has been a privilege to meet.
It is a commitment to be your link to Europe.
In standing for these Elections as a candidate for the Nationalist Party, I stand with a Party that has always had Malta’s’ European destination at its core and a Party that places solidarity and the development of the full potential of every individual at the heart of its principles. A Party therefore which has, right from the moment of its birth, harboured precisely those same principles on which the European Union itself is based.
Any such commitment can only hope to be meaningful if it is not only based but also continuously nurtured by close interaction between candidates and those they wish to serve. I hope this website will be a valid forum for participation, sharing of ideas, suggestions, discussion, information and feedback to which you are all eagerly invited.
